PHAs are the real biopolymers. When it comes to “bioplastics”, we currently notice an immense complexity of this topic. The expression “bioplastic”, “green plastic”, “biopolymer” and other similar words may sound sustainable and are effective in advertising and labelling a product due to the association of “bio” with plastics or polymers. However, the truth surrounding renewability, compostability or biodegradability is far from reality.
PHAs in terms of feedstocks, mode of synthesis, degradability, and compostability differ from other polymeric materials sold as “bioplastics”, highlighting the unique selling points of PHAs as “green” plastic products in the circular economy. PHAs are circular due to their biodegradability characteristics, like cellulose, proteins and starch. PHAs are biodegradable and compostable as well as biocompatible and bioresorbable, hence, they exert no negative effect on the biosphere surrounding them (e.g., on living organisms, cell lines, living tis- sue, ecosystems).
As part of our mission is to tackle the global plastic waste problem, we developed special compounds for different industries. All our compounds are biodegradable in all conditions. The bio-based material cames back to nature without leaving permanent microplastics. If it accidentally ends up in nature, it doesn’t harm the ecosystem.
